1 January 2002  Poplar base framework and birch plywood carcass. Finished cabinet will
support a 30" x 60" top...speaking of which...

21 January 2002  Here’s the largest cutting board I’ve ever constructed...err...the only
cutting board I’ve ever constructed! The island top is constructed of hard maple with a
rectangular black walnut inlay. The lengthwise inlay is the full thickness of the top. The
horizontal bands, yet to be installed, will be able 3/8" thick. The top is about 1 5/8" thick.

17 February 2002 Much progress made today, including installing the front face frame,
faux panel frames around the carcass and the remaining inlay for the butcher block
top.

3 March 2002 The dovetailed drawers and trays have been assembled and the
small moldings that line the panel on the front left of the cabinet have been
installed. Minor imperfections on the butcher-block top have been filled and it is
ready for final sanding. Remaining milling and assembly work includes the panel
doors and the bottom molding on the cabinet.

16 March 2002 The drawers and trays have been completed, finished and have
the hardware installed and tested. The face frame is sanded and ready for primer.
Next comes the raised panel doors and drawer fronts...

21 April 2002 The face frames for the door panels are finally milled and
ready to assemble. The results using the Eagle America 15 degree Shaker
rail and stile cutter set were outstanding!

28 April 2002 The panel doors are milled and assembled.

4 May 2002 The pantry drawer is constructed and assembled. The front panel will remain
unattached until it is partially finished.

19 May 2002 I'm down to the final steps in this project. The doors are installed and
the inner drawers are ready to go. Some minor “dimensioning oversights” required
me to forget using the drawer slides for these units and go with a more conventional
drawer setup...missed it by “that much”!! The lower base molding is complete, too.
A little final sanding and the unit is ready for the finish.
